Outdoor Learning and Forest School

What is Forest School/Outdoor Learning?

This is a unique and inspiring way for children to learn and grow through regular experiences in the natural environment. It goes beyond outdoor play, offering children the opportunity to explore, discover, and develop key life skills in a safe and nurturing outdoor setting.

At our Pre-school, Outdoor Learning is an ongoing journey rather than a one-off activity. Through regular sessions in our spacious outdoor area, including our grassed space and vegetable patches, children build confidence, curiosity, and a meaningful connection with the natural world.

Our approach supports every child’s holistic development. Children are encouraged to become resilient, independent, creative, and confident learners. They are given the freedom to explore, investigate, and take supported risks appropriate to their environment, helping them develop problem-solving skills and self-belief.

We place a strong emphasis on helping children understand where their food comes from. Through hands-on experiences in our vegetable patches, children learn how food is grown, cared for, and harvested—developing an appreciation for the journey from garden to plate.

We use our outdoor environment to provide rich, hands-on experiences, from planting and growing to exploring seasonal changes and engaging in nature-based activities. Sessions are child-led, fostering a strong sense of community where every child feels valued and supported.

All sessions are led by our qualified Forest School practitioner who is committed to maintaining high standards and continually developing their expertise.

Through Outdoor Learning, we nurture a love of learning, a respect for nature, and the confidence to explore the world around us.
